HYDRATION STATION
An outreach program where we inform athletes, coaches and parents about proper hydration and demystify common misconceptions about hydration. One way we accomplish this is by attending events, interacting with attendees, sharing research backed information on the importance of proper hydration.

What is Hydration Station?
A platform to inform and educate, athletes, coaches and parents about proper hydration and demystify common misconceptions about hydration. One way we accomplish this is interacting with individuals and teams at various sporting events, sharing research backed information on the importance of proper hydration.

Why Hydrate ?
Research shows that adequate hydration is required for proper bodily functions, and performance. Being well hydrated also helps regulate body temperature and can decrease the risk of some heat illnesses including heat stroke and note this not just for athletes.

Resources
These products can help hydrate. They can replenish electrolytes lost during physical activity.
WHAT IS A HYDRATION STATION?
Our Hydration Station program allows us to be present and sometimes sponsor different athletic events to educate and equip the athletic community on proper hydration that can be applied in real time. Along our AT journey, we noticed some hydration gaps and we are here to help bridge those gaps and provide some solutions.
Our Hydration Stations aim to:
-
Significantly decrease medical emergencies
-
Provide easy access to electrolytes, sport drinks, etc.
-
Distribute FREE water to athletes
It's a place to educate parents, coaches, and athletes by:
-
Encouraging healthy habits for athletes and coaches
-
Creating a place where athletes are encouraged to stay hydrated during performance
-
Fostering an environment for repeat customers, making hydration options conveniently available at little to no cost
Why Should I Hydrate?
Water is an essential nutrient for life and the most abundant component in the human body.
Hydration looks and feels different for different levels of activity, body size, metabolism, and climates.
Access to hydration is vitally important
When are you drinking / eating fluids (water, watermelon, coconut water, oranges, grapes, celery) these items should of course be in conjunction with balanced diet based on the athletes specific needs. There are other nutritional needs that athletes require including carbohydrates and healthy fats. See a local nutritionist for overall healthy eating guidelines. The above are just a few natural ways to help stay hydrated.
Research proves that adequate hydration is required for proper bodily functions. Being well hydrated also helps regulate body temperature and can decrease the risk of heat illness including heat stroke and this is not just for athletes.
When thinking about hydration, consider the following:
-
How many water breaks?
-
How much are you drinking water and including sodium that can be lost in sweat.
When a person is active:
-
Water loss happens, the body is made of over 60% of water. Water is important in muscle and organ function.
-
Loosing water is not the problem, the problem is not replenishing the loss correctly.
Dehydration can affect the body’s ability to regulate body temperature and heart rate, and may also cause decrease performance including premature fatigue, diminished decision-making skills and slower response times.
There is not a one size fits all approach to hydration. Some common factors, listed below, can be used to monitor hydration levels. This is not an exhaustive list!! Please seek advise form your local health care provider should you have additional and / or specific questions or concerns.
-
Urine color
-
Monitor sweat loss
-
Thirst
-
Excessive weight loss post exercise (baseline weight - post exercise weight = N/ basline. X 100) If greater than 2% you are dehydrated
Water alone is not adequate hydration
It does not contain sodium potassium and chloride. These electrolytes are lost when energy is expended and needs to be replenished during activity.
Common Dehydration Symptoms
-
Muscle cramping
-
Fatigue
-
Darker color urine
-
Lightheadedness
-
Dizziness
-
Confusion
-
Dry mouth and mucous membranesIncreased heart rate and breathing
You also want to avoid Hyper-hydration
